Hey Mama, You Need to Stop Holding Yourself Back

Hey Mama. Yeah, I’m talking to you. The one over there, in your head, overthinking something or another. Never putting yourself first. Always exhausted. Scared to say no.

You need to stop.

I’m serious.

STOP.

Jump up and down if you have to. Go somewhere and scream at the top of your lungs. Find a wooden floor, put on some boots and stomp. And then get your butt to work.

Stop.

And go.

Do the work.

QUIT TALKING YOURSELF DOWN FROM BEING GREAT.

It’s time to make some decisions, Mama.

What do you want? No more asking the same questions over and over again. Make a choice.

CHOOSE YOU.
CHOOSE YOUR FAMILY.
CHOOSE YOUR FINANCIAL FREEDOM.
CHOOSE YOUR STORY.
CHOOSE YOUR VOICE.
CHOOSE THE COMMUNITY THAT NEEDS YOU AND IS WAITING FOR WHATEVER YOU HAVE TO OFFER THEM.

The only difference between you and Oprah when she first started is Oprah pushed through the childhood trauma, the body image issues, the being a fat black woman in an industry primarily NOT welcoming to fat black women.

She was consistent, hardworking and she made the choice to keep moving.

Keep moving.

I’m only saying this because I care about you, Mama. Please don’t think I’m trying to break you down. Here’s the thing, though—you are breaking yourself down every day that you wake up thinking about what you can’t do.

It’s time to STOP.

Let the people who love you support you. Let the people who care about you build you up.
Also? Commit to doing the work to learn to love yourself.

Affirmations. Lists. Self-help books. Therapy. Coaching sessions. Workshops. Talks with girlfriends. Retreats. Journaling.

Whatever you have to do to stop so that you can GO—do that.

I will not sit by and watch you pretend that you aren’t creative, brilliant, and worthy because you are all that and more.

It’s time to stop, Mama. It’s time to stop.
