There never seems to be enough time to get it all done. I don’t know about you all, but as hard as I try, it’s very rare for me to get everything on my to-do list checked off in a day. Since we’re at the beginning of a new year, I’m challenging myself to do better, though. No more wasting time, which typically leads to wasting money, or running around like a chicken with my head cut off. I’m just being smarter about the way I spend my days. The #1 thing I’m doing better already? Planning and preparation. Yup. Can you believe that a little P&P is the secret to getting stuff done?

Planning

A few evenings ago, I knew I had a laundry list of items that needed to get done. I had to shop for groceries, get an oil change, and I wanted to spend a little one on one time with Ayva. I sat down and made a list of everything I needed to purchase along with the stops I had to make. I decided that, in an effort to be more efficient, I’d do my grocery shopping at the same time I was getting my oil changed at Walmart. Before I left out, I called the Automotive Care Center to see how long the wait would be. See! Planning ahead! After buckling my baby girl up, we headed on our way.

I ended up saving myself from wasting gas and about 20 minutes by calling to find out the wait time for my oil change. If I hadn’t done that, I would taken the exit to one  Walmart store, discovered that there was a substantial wait, and have to get back on the highway to another location. The Walmart a little farther out was able to get me in and out in 45 minutes!

Preparation

Since Terrence is the person who typically handles all of our car maintenance tasks, I took a little bit of time to prepare myself before I went in for my oil change. I looked up the type of engine my car has, and researched the type of oil that I should ask for. Based on what I found, Pennzoil High Mileage Vehicle oil gelps to reduce leaks and oil consumption and really helps to keep engines running clean for a long time. I’m all about the clean air, so I made sure to request that when I went into Walmart. Besides, I know the Pennzoil brand. It helps clean out sludge and it’s designed for complete protection. Car maintenance is too expensive to play around with. Good oil and frequent oil changes help to make sure I’m prepared anytime I go on the road.

Execution

While my car was getting the oil change, Ayva and I shopped. We walked around the store with our list and were able to get everything on it. In a about 1/2 hour, I heard my name over the intercom asking me to report back to the Automotive Care Center because my car was done! In about 1.5 hours including travel time, I had all of my tasks done. After that, I had the rest of the day to spend chillin’ with my baby girl! All it took was a little planning and preparation!

What an awesome way to save time so that you could spend more time with Ayva! I’m totally going to remember that call ahead trick, too. Thanks for sharing, Brandi! #client
