Fun and Games and…Learning?

learning games

This has been one of the most fun, education focused summers that I’ve had in a long time. Although I used to work in summer learning, and Terrence still does to this day, when it comes to taking advantage of the time we have with Ayva over the summer to enhance her learning, we had been slacking a bit.

To be fair, this is the first year that the games and activities that she’s into are actually fun for us. She’s going into the 2nd grade when school starts back up, is a great reader, and is pretty good with math, too. Now that she doesn’t get easily frustrated when she’s challenged with an activity, everything is all good! Playing learning games with Ayva is enjoyable for Terrence and me now, too! We’re Lakeshore Learning Blog Ambassadors, so we have no shortage of ideas for great learning games.

Learning Games = Fun!

Ayva has really embraced learning this summer. I’ve worked with a lot of children and know that they all have the capacity to learn. Whether or not they like to learn? Well, that’s a different story. I wasn’t sure where Ayva would fall on the spectrum, but it’s amazing to see her soak in new ideas and concepts like a sponge. I believe that Terrence and I taking the time to engage Ayva with learning games that push her to try something different, and even give her the opportunity to lose, is the reason that she’s becoming so curious.

I love walking into her room in the morning to see her head buried in a book instead in a trance by some screen. It’s exciting to watch her demonstrate how she set off a chain reaction with theCreate-A-Chain Reaction STEM Kit from Lakeshore Learning. Watching her laugh her head off when our family plays The Allowance Game and I lose all of my money sends me into a fit of giggles, too.

I have no doubt that when school starts back up in the fall, Ayva will have a head start in her second grade activities. You can help your child get ahead and stay ahead, no matter what grade they’re in, too. If you have family game nights anyway, consider adding some games that encourage reading likeRead Around the House! Treasure Hunt Game, or math likeThe Allowance Gameor theAdd-It-Up Archery Set. Trust me, no one will tell the difference. It’s all fun and games!
