Lakeshore Learning’s Gifts for Growing Minds 2016

growing-minds-6

The school year is all the way in session, and so far second grade is no joke! Maybe it’s because I can’t remember that far back, but I didn’t realize how many new concepts would be introduced on grade 2. Ayva and all of her classmates are like little sponges. It’s exciting to see them discovering how things work with their seven and eight-year-old brains! One thing is for sure, Mama has to step her game up at home with some gifts for growing minds to make sure we’re building on the lessons that she’s learning at school.

Fortunately, we’re Lakeshore Learning Blog Ambassadors, and Lakeshore’s 2016 Gifts for Growing Minds Holiday Collection was just released. Ayva definitely has a growing mind, so we picked a few items from this exclusive collection as a way to bring the learning from the classroom into our home in a fun and engaging way.

Lakeshore Learning’s 2016 Gifts for Growing Minds

Every year, Lakeshore creates a catalog of over 200 items that inspire creativity, imagination, and discovery for children ages 0-11. This year, in the Gifts for Growing Minds collection, there are over 30 new items designed by Lakeshore’s education experts. What I love about the collection is that there’s the opportunity to find products that your child will learn from and that are rooted in activities your child is actually interested in.

For example, Ayva has a passion for fashion. As a way to encourage that, we selected My First Fashion Designer which allows her to design and create different outfits without having to cut or sew. It’s a wonderful way to encourage what she already loves. It also continues to help improves small motor skills, and support concentration and her imagination. See, even fashion can inspire learning!

In addition to the fashion design kit, we also chose the Young Scientist Chemistry Lab Set. The set includes six simple experiments that introduce children to the world of chemistry. Take a look at Ayva’s live unboxing!

What Is She Interested In?

One of the most important things to remember when you’re selecting gifts for your little one’s growing mind is to keep in mind their real, genuine interests. You may want your kiddo to grow up to be a doctor, but they may be passionate about cooking. Why not get them the Amazing Chef Cooking Set from the Gifts for Growing Minds collection to inspire them to keep doing what they love? That’s the beauty of learning through play, and the wonder of growing minds. Seeds planted while our children are young bloom later in the form of adults who are interesting, and who do what they love to do!

There are a lot of great choices in the catalogue! The pet vet, cash register, and microscope set are appealing because they suit the interests of both my children.

I would have to go with the cash register. I loved my cash register so much as a kid that I was determined to be a cashier when I grew up.
