Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas…’tis the season for overindulging, am I right? From candy to pie and everything in between, usually around this time of year I’m digging out every pair of pants that I have with an elastic waistband to get ready for the season of holiday eatings! The last few years have been different, though. Every since I had Ayva, I’m conscious of displaying healthy eating habits. It certainly makes sense to enjoy the delicious holiday food offerings, but I don’t have to be a pig about it!
My biggest weakness when it comes to eating right during the holidays is probably eating on the go. I love shopping, and with the stores open late, I’m out all the time looking for steals and deals. I love to browse while sipping on a decadent coffee drink (tons of calories!), or mull over my purchases as I through drive through for an order of fries (tons of bad fat!). Of course, my little roadie, Ayva, is always with me, so she picks up my habits.
There’s one very simple solution to this issue, though. We bring snacks with us! We started this habit last year, and it really seemed to work. Instead of spending $28 on a cup chocolate caramel mocha frapumachicoffee, I made coffee at home and we packed our snacks with us. It worked out really well! We weren’t so “omg, I’m starving! I have to get something NOW”, and we ended up eating things that were much healthier.
This year, our go to snack is everything on the CVS/pharmacy Gold Emblem Abound line. The snacks in this line are better for you. Many of them are gluten free, and they are all free of artificial preservatives and flavors. They have sweet and savory items, and a wide selection for everyone in the family.
