What Was Your Baby’s First Food?

I’m remembering my baby’s first eating experience in this sweet post sponsored by Clorox®.

It’s so funny how having a new baby can set you off on journey down memory lane. Ever since I first got pregnant with my son Jamie, I started to remember tons of sweet moments that happened with my daughter Ayva seven years earlier.

“Oh, Ayva used to do that!”

“I remember when Ayva would act that way!”

Day after day, some Ayva memory that I’ve forgotten about rises to the surface again because of conversations I’m having about Jamie. Thinking about Jamie learning to roll over makes me remember how Ayva rolled over the very first time—right on to the floor from our bed! Then I think about how she would wake up with big yawns and arms raised up high making a face that looks just like the one her little brother makes now. These memories are an unexpected perk of having a new baby!

One of my favorite memories is about the first time Ayva had solid food. I nursed her for six months exclusively and was just about to start introducing cereal to her diet. I had to attend a training at work and couldn’t find a babysitter, so I took Ayva with me. I had her in one arm and a plate of fruit in my other hand. When I looked away to talk to a colleague, Ayva reached on my plate, snagged a piece of melon and started sucking away at it! As the juice from the melon covered her little face, I realized that she was more than ready for solid food and figured I’d better move my plan to expand her diet up!

Once Ayva started with solids, the clean, pristine baby that I was used to was gone, and we entered toddler-land with a bang and a stained onesie! I was surprised at how messy she got when she ate, but Ayva loved to feed herself and I knew that it was good for her. I would soak her clothes as soon as she was done eating to get food stains out.

Sometimes that worked, sometimes it didn’t. It just depended on what she ate. Bananas usually came out with no problems. Prunes? Forget about it. Many onesies and bibs were sacrificed for this little girl to learn how to eat.

Now that Jamie’s here, I’ll be looking forward to his first time eating solid food, too. I’ll keep an eye out on the cues that he’s ready so he doesn’t have to resort to grabbing food off of my plate like Ayva had to!

The other thing I’ll do differently is use Clorox 2® Stain Remover & Color Booster Liquid. It’s perfect for pre-treating clothes to remove even more stains, which lets my kids eat freely and make all the mess they would like. In fact, Clorox 2® Stain Remover & Color Booster paired with your favorite detergent removes 4X more stains and brighten 2X more than using detergent alone. Now that I  have more mouths to feed, I’ll at least save on buying clothes as they are brighter for longer! Ha! For families with sensitive skin, try Clorox 2® Free and Clear formula option, made without dyes or perfumes.

Do you remember your baby’s first time eating solid food? What was it like? Did they make a mess? Do you have pictures?
