4 Ideas for Fun Day Dates

Day dates. When you have kids, day dates can mean the difference between we time and we time, if you know what I mean. Terrence and I look for any opportunity that we can get to hang out as a couple, and as parents, some of that time comes during the day when she’s in school, at birthday parties, or visiting with her grandparents. To be honest, the older I get, I appreciate day dates a lot more than I like regular dates. When it gets to be 9 or 10 at night, I’m not trying to turn out, I’m trying to turn in! Day dates get me when I’m fresh and energetic.

Not sure what to do on your day dates? Well, just know that they don’t have to be complicated. Here are a few ideas to get you started!

Go Window Shopping

Day dates don’t have to be expensive. Terrence and I like to go to Ikea to walk around, planning what we’re going to get for the house we’re saving up for. You can do the same thing! Head to Target and wander aimlessly, holding hands and enjoying each other’s company.

Take a Walk

I know it might be cold in some parts of the country, but here in Northern California, we can still walk outside with no issues. There’s a lovely lake up the street from our place with a trail for walking, and it’s nice to go out and people watch. If that’s not an option for you, consider bundling up and getting outside for a little bit anyway. After you’re done, head home and find a way to warm each other up. If you know what I mean.

Take a Quick Trip

We’re fortunate that we’re less than an our from wine country, so we can shoot up there in the morning and be back in just a few hours. You might not be close to Napa, but I’m sure there’s somewhere you can go to get away for a little bit. But yeah, if there’s a place with wine and cheese…go there. For sure.

Day Binge

Netflix has been the great mediator between Terrence and me when it comes to movies and television shows. We could never find shows that we both like, but now we’re all, “Did you hear about Master of None?” (my favorite new Netflix original series), “You didn’t finish watching Jessica Jones without me, right?”(Terrence’s favorite new Netflix original series). We typically do this at night after Ayva goes to bed, but doing it during the daytime is even better. We don’t have to worry about lowering the volume if we hear our little girl get out of bed, or holding back our laughter so we won’t wake her up.

Regardless of what you decide to do for your day date, as long as you’re flexible and open to having a good time, it’ll be a great opportunity to connect with your honey. Have fun!
