I don’t even have to look at old pictures to know that my 12-year-old is way more stylish than I was at her age.
It’s not just that fashion has changed. Ayva really has a fantastic sense of style, and isn’t afraid to take fashion risks.
I gotta say, she inspires me to step my game up!
When I talk to my friends, many of them express the same sentiment. While a few of them have kids who got their fashion sense genetically, there are many like me who watch in awe of their kids’ swag!
Retro Fashion: What Goes Around Comes Around
What’s even more interesting to me about how much more utterly chic I feel like kids today are compared to my generation was is that they’re wearing the exact same clothes!
As Ayva and I browse through back to school outfits, all of the middle and high school memories start flooding back. When I see how cute Ayva looks trying on checkered pants and babydoll dresses and tops, I wonder if maybe I had it all wrong.
Maybe my generation was more fly than I thought!
Fashion has become an unexpected way for my daughter and I to connect. Helping her pick out outfits, and getting her opinion on my looks has become one of our favorite pastimes.
Although we’ve come a long way from the days of her allowing me to dress her in any cute thing my heart desires, it’s fun to watch her find her own style.
Zulily’s Back-to-School, #UniquelyZu Contest
Does your child also get joy from fashion?
If you have a creative kid who loves fashion, make sure you tell them about Zulily’s Back-to-School, #UniquelyZu Contest. Six fashion forward kids between the ages of 5 – 12 will have the chance to win a $6,000 prize package, with a bonus opportunity to work with Zulily as creative inspiration for an exclusive capsule collection.
The capsule collection will include pieces from swimwear to back-to-school styles and will be launched in 2022.
Doesn’t that sound awesome?
Okay, here’s how you enter the contest:
- Have your child create a piece of content that showcases their personal fashion style. It could be an outfit, a flat-lay, a drawing, mood board, or whatever they like.
- Post the creation on your personal Instagram account. Your account should be public. Make sure to use the hashtags #ZulilyContest and #UniquelyZu
- Head over to the registration page and fill out the entry form.
The contest entry period runs from July 7 – July 31, 2021. You can take a look at the full contest rules on the Zulily website.
celebrate your child’s style
Your kid might not be the fashion stylist type, and that’s okay. The one thing I reiterate with Ayva is that as long as she feels comfortable in her clothes, that’s all that really matters. Her clothes should allow her to move and be who she is, not restrict her from being her whole full self.
After all, it’s the kid that makes the clothes!
