The Best Fashion Advice You'll Ever Receive

Next week starts a busy season for me of meetings, events, and lots of getting together with folks outside of the home. Because I don’t have to leave my house in order to go to work, the first thing that I thought about as my schedule filled up was what in the world I was going to wear. I’m not stressing out, though, because I’ve figured out the secret to looking good every time I step out. And guess what? I love y’all so much that I’m going to share this incredibly useful piece of knowledge with you.

When it comes to fashion, figure out what looks good on you, and stick with it.

It’s so easy, right? Alright, let me go into a little bit of detail just in case you’re not following. Take me, for instance. When I go to conferences, weddings, or any other occasion, I wear a-line or midi-dresses. I always bring a cardigan or a blazer with me, and 97% of the time I have a scarf in my bag. I like florals and texture (like lace), and a very simple design with fabric that I don’t have to iron and that I can move in. I’ve mastered my style to the point that even my husband can point out when a dress “looks” like me.

It saves me from a lot of angst when I go shopping, and headaches when I’m shopping in a short time frame. By sticking with what looks good on me based on my previous experiences, I can literally find a dress that works for me in 10 minutes or less at any store that I shop at.

I know what you’re going to say. Fashion is supposed to be adventure and trying things. If you wear the same style all of the time, you’ll turn into a fuddy duddy. Nope. False. I still experiment with colors and patterns, and change up my jewelry and shoes. Also, just because I know what works for me doesn’t mean I don’t give other styles a try, I just don’t have to worry if they don’t work out since I can go back to my old faithfuls! In order to feel confident, I have to comfortable, and knowing for a fact, that I look good, aids in that comfort.

Yes, Pam! I love my uniform(s). I change up patterns, colors, etc, but you can always tell that it’s an outfit that I put together just for me. THAT’S real fashion.

That’s right! A uniform! Some folks don’t like it, but me…I love it!

It actually took me until about my mid-to-late 30’s to start doing pretty much what you said. Before that time, I felt all sorts of pressure that I needed to wear lots of color (I prefer black clothes with small pops of color), try new things, etc. It took a while to realize that I didn’t have to dress the way other expected or what the latest fashion trends said I should be wearing. I do what works for me and it makes me happy! 🙂

That’s right, @homecookingmemories:disqus! Who cares what the trends are if you feel uncomfortable? I wear what I want, and I wear what makes me feel good!

Yes!!! I tell people this all the time. I look good in fit and flare dresses or anything that accentuates my small waist but flares enough to cover my big bottom. I am comfortable ordering clothes of line because I know what works and what doesn’t. You look great!

Me, too, @summerlendavis:disqus! I never try on clothes because I know what works!
