Searching for the Perfect Summer Purse #ThisIsStyle

collective Bias, Mama Knows It All

Sears, Sears Style, Mama Knows It All

Nothing destroys a cute summer outfit like a big ‘ole clunky purse. I know because I’m totally guilty of carrying a huge, black granny bag with me in all types of heat.  When I see pictures of myself,  holding a big winter pocketbook, and wearing a little sundress, I can’t even deny how crazy I look! Memorial Day marks the official start of summer fashion season, and I’m determined to have purses that are as fashionable as my outfits.

Being a serial black bag buyer, I knew that I needed to go to Sears to check out some brighter options. Sears always has a lot of purses in different colors and styles to choose from. Besides, I figured if I’m going to Sears, I might as well pick up something to wear on Memorial Day, right? Of course, selecting a dress was the easy part. Sears had sweet maxi dresses on sale for $19.99. I’m a Shop Your Way Rewards Member, and I had $3 worth of points, so the dress cost even less than that! If the gorgeous blues in the dress hadn’t sold me, the price definitely would have.

Once I had the dress out of the way, I was on to the challenge of finding a purse that was worthy enough to be worn with it. Trying to narrow down the choices was so difficult! No, really. It was hard. Here, check out my shopping trip.

Should I go with neutral colors?

Was I brave enough to go neon bright?

Would fringe bring the flavor I was looking for?

Finally, I asked my fashionista friends on Instagram to help me decide which purse I should choose. They all agreed that the coral pocketbook looked really summery and fresh with the blues in the maxi dress. I picked up a pair of dangling earrings on my way to the register, and when I got home, I let my afro loose, and got my summer on. Bye, bye black granny bag! Hello Summer!

How are you summer-izing your wardrobe?

Agree about the coral bag – best choice. Glad you did not go with the fringe!

Thanks, Robyn. Yes, I thought the fringe would look cute with jeans or something, but it was way too much with the pattern of the dress.

I still need to do this… I am still sporting a black bag and it just looks silly! Love your choice!

I like it too, Heather! I think it’ll look good with a jean skirt or shorts!

I agree! I'm too much of an introvert to wear neon. LOL!

    First, your hair is bangin’
    (Yes, I said bangin’!)
I love those bright purses! Great colors. The fringe…not my style but it will do for a fun look.

Thank you, @rungirl1:disqus! I’m not used to wearing it all out like that, but I thought I’d give it a try. Yes, I’d wear the fringe with a neutral outfit. It totally clashed with this dress!

I'm going to go back and purchase another one. I have almost $40 in Shop Your Way rewards to use!

Yep, the one you picked is perfect! Like your hair. And that dress. I love cross body bags for summer (they don’t work as well when trying to cross over a winter coat).

Thanks, Amanda! Yes, this is my first cross body bag since…high school? It definitely feels less luggage-y than a shoulder purse.

I have a feeling I'm going to go back and get on of those cream bags, Raya Buffy Fagg. I can wear that with a lot of stuff!

That's a good point, Arelis Cintron! If they go on sale, I'll consider picking one up to wear with a plain outfit.

I went back this weekend, and actually thought about getting yet ANOTHER coral bag. One can't have too many, right?
