Since Ayva loves reading on the iPad, whenever I find a good app that supports her learning to read and/or gaining technical skills, I’m all over it. If the app happens to make her laugh like crazy because it’s so fun, that’s like icing on the cake! I recently purchased the Storybooks Starring You app for iPads and iPhones, and since Ayva was having such a good time with it that I wanted to share more about it. Perfect for preschoolers, this app uses your child’s image and name to make them the star of a digital book.
Storybooks Starring You is very easy to use. After you download it, you just choose a book and take a picture of your child. After you adjust the picture, you choose a gender and skin color, type their name, and just like that, your child is the main character of a book. It’s seriously so simple that Ayva, my 3-year-old, can do it by herself. The illustrations are outrageously good, y’all, and the music quality is seriously excellent. One thing you should know, though, is that these books do not have narrators, so you’ll need to read the stories to your preschooler. Check out how Ayva makes a book starring herself:
The app is free to download from iTunes, and comes with one free book, the hilarious “Dancin’ Feet” that had both Ayva and me cracking up! Right now, each additional book is $3.99 if you subscribe to a monthly subscription plan, or $7.99 for individual books. With the monthly plan, you automatically receive one new book a month, and any additional books that you’d like to purchase are only $1.99. In the next few weeks, though, the monthly subscription plan will go up to $4.99. Subscribers will have access to all of the books in the Storybooks Starring You library, as well as a host of other fantastic and entertaining perks including videos and other apps.
Let me know if you download the app, and tell me what you think about it!
