You know how you go to buy something like a car, or to look at a house, and the salesperson goes on and on about this feature and that feature? Nothing is ever bad. A small house is “cozy”, a used car is “like new.” Have you ever acted like a salesperson and sold yourself on yourself?
That’s the foundation of success. In order to achieve any sort of greatness, you have to be sold on your worth and your ability. No one else is going to buy what you’re selling if you don’t even want it!
A couple of months ago, I had the great fortune to sit in a room with some of the biggest decision makers from top companies in the world. There were top female executives from Target, Walmart, Amazon, PepsiCo, Coca-Cola, Deloitte, Hallmark and more in the house. As they shared their stories in small group conversations and larger keynotes, there was one common theme: Confidence matters. Over and over again, these women talked about how their careers started to soar once they began to recognize their own value.
Kick Rocks
I can’t lie. That’s much easier said than done. At least once a week, you can find me (literally) hiding under the covers in my bed because I’m feeling inadequate in one way or another. Even though I’m fortunate to have friends and family that positively sow into my esteem on a regular basis, as well as successful projects, I still can’t shake the feeling that I’m not doing enough. In the words of Maria Renz from Amazon, that’s when I have to “tell the itty bitty shitty committee to kick rocks” and get out of my head.
I HAVE SOMETHING TO OFFER THE WORLD. THE WOMAN THAT I AM TODAY IS GOOD AND VALUABLE. My stories matter. My products matter. My ideas matter. I matter. I DO NOT SUCK.
No job, no partner, no client is going to convince you of that until you believe it for yourself.
You know what? I want you to take an inventory today of all of the things that you’ve accomplished in your professional life. It could be something as small as signing up one email subscriber to as big as starting a successful business. Keep the list going. Put it in a notebook and update it every single day. Start celebrating tiny victories and giving yourself credit for the work that you are doing.
Sell yourself on yourself and reach new levels of personal and professional success.

Thank you for this post! I don’t know the keystrokes for a thumbs up on a keyboard (if there is one)…so you’ll just have to envision me giving you a thumbs up! As often as I try to teach my daughter this, I forget to remind myself.
