Summer can be fun for toddlers (as long as you’re safe!)

Summer is my favorite time of the year. The only thing that makes it better is being able to experience it with my two children. Last year, my little boy was too young to appreciate the sunshine. In fact, he hated it. We took him to Hawaii, and he was miserable the entire time! Now, though, he’s a one-year-old toddler and ready for summer adventures!

Fortunately, I’m able to work from home, so I already have a bunch of activities planned for us. We’re definitely going to go swimming at the pool, and in our front yard, and I also have plans for us to go to the beach a few times a week. I know some parents like to sign their little ones up for lots of programs and activities, but that’s not my thing. I considered it, and wondered if I was doing my little guy a disservice because he’s just going to be hanging with mommy. Am I stunting his growth? Even though he’s only one, will he be left behind because I didn’t put him in toddler camp?

After considering it, I have to trust my gut. Summer looks like lazy days, fresh fruit, and playing for my kiddo. And that’s okay. For the families who put their kids in camps, that’s okay, too. There’s only one right way to parent—the way that works for you and your family.

Baby Dove is perfect for delicate baby skin

The right way to parent for my family this summer looks like a lot of playgrounds, visits to the farmer’s market, and just hanging in my in-law’s backyard. Jamie is going to be out in the sun a lot. As much as he wants me to believe he’s a big boy, he’s still my little baby, and I have to make sure I keep him safe in the sun even as we’re having a good time. Sunscreen is a given, but between all of the water he’s going to be in, plus the sun rays beaming on his skin, I’ll need to take extra care of his tender baby skin. To do that, there is a superior choice.

Baby Dove lotions, cleansers, and shampoos are made with 100% skin-natural nutrients perfect for baby’s delicate skin. They replenish the skin’s moisture, which is perfect for the summer when Jamie is in the sun and taking baths more frequently. I think he’s taken more baths in the past week than he has all of last month! His skin is already really dry and sensitive, so Baby Dove Rich Moisture products help keep his body baby soft. The best part? Baby Dove Rich Moisture Tip to Toe Wash is hypoallergenic, pH neutral, and dermatologist and pediatrician tested. Baby Dove Rich Moisture Baby Lotion has soothed Jamie’s dry skin from its first use. His skin stays moisturized for 24 hours, too. Or at least until we go outside and get him in water again! Other products in the collection include the Rich Moisture Shampoo, Rich Moisture Baby Wipes, and the Rich Moisture Baby Bar. You can expect the same great baby skin friendly quality in all of them!

Other ways to make fun in the sun safe for baby

Of course, before we get to bath time, there are a few other ways that we make our sunshine fun time safe for Jamie. Here are some ideas of things that we do to make sure Jamie can enjoy the summer.

  • Carry a couple of sippy cups filled with cold water in your bag. Even better if one starts off frozen so it’s still cold later in the day.
  • Keep a swimsuit or trunks and water shoes in your diaper bag. You never know when you’ll pass a fun splash park!
  • Water shoes are a must. Baby feet are super delicate and the ground, grass, or sand is really hot.
  • Babies are notorious for hating hats, but keep trying to make him wear it. It will protect his little head.
  • Pack fresh fruits for snacks instead of crackers and things. It’ll be nice and refreshing when it’s hot.
  • Watch the signs. If baby seems like they’re ready to go inside, wrap it up and head in
