It’ll only take one time of having to drive back to school to bring your daughter pads to realize you need a period tracker for girls.
Whether she decides to track her period digitally or with a calendar, journal, or planner, finding a system that helps her to stay in tune with her body is not just so you can plan ahead and make sure you have the right supplies.
It’s also a way for your daughter to feel empowered and in charge of her menstrual health.
How do you track your period?
One of the questions your daughter will have when her cycle first starts is how does she track her period.
First, talk to her about the menstrual cycle.
One of the common misunderstandings that girls have about their period is that it starts on the same calendar day each month.
The average menstrual cycle is around 28 days, but it really varies from girl to girl.
Now, the actual bleeding can last anywhere from 2 – 7 or more days.
In order to track your period’s cycle, you’ll start counting on the first day of bleeding until the first day of your next period.
That number of days is your cycle, and it’ll help you determine when you can expect your period to start.
Finding a period tracker for girls
The thing to keep in mind is that a period tracker for girls should be fairly simple.
Having your period can already come with a bunch of crap like cramps and moodiness. No need to make tracking it difficult, too.
These period tracker journals and planners are all super easy to use, and very affordable.

Tracking your period digitally
If your daughter isn’t into the old school way of tracking her menstrual cycle, there are plenty of digital period tracking apps that she can use.
Make sure the app your daughter is using is age appropriate and safe.
Steer clear of apps that have direct messaging features and forums.
Check the sexual health information on the app (i.e. does it track ovulation and talk about trying to conceive?) and make sure it’s at a maturity level that your daughter feels comfortable with.
I put together a list of some of the best period tracking apps for girls with all of these things taken into consideration.
