When it comes to fashion, my number one requirement is that it has to be comfortable. I’m not ashamed to admit it, comfort even trumps price when it comes to the clothes that I wear. Direct me towards a super soft tee, or extra slinky pants, and honey, I’m all over it. That doesn’t mean that I don’t like to be fashionable, or I don’t want my clothes to reflect my Urban Natural Mama flavor. It just means that I’m always on the lookout for brands that understand the necessity of everyday flyness. Like Nystorm.
Nystorm Clothing Company is one of those rare brands that’s able to be really successful at merging comfort with originality and style. Their tee-shirts, sweaters, and footwear really resonate with my “authentic and genuine” side. It’s probably no surprise, then, that one of the founders is my cousin. I remember when Jamel was running the company as a student at Hampton University. Even back then, before being soulful was popular, Nystorm connected to the soul of folks who love fashion. And they’re even more intentional about doing it now. Tribal themes, textures and fabrics that move are the foundation of Nystorm’s collections, and it’s what draws me to their lovely pieces. Take a look at some of the items from their current collection:
Right now, Nystorm has a Kickstarter campaign going on to introduce their Nystorm Trek hybrid shoe. Not quite a sneaker, not quite a boot, the Trek will be a staple for men and women, especially in urban environments from NYC to LA to…Oakland. The design was created to encourage journeying, walking, and exploring. Y’all, seriously, check out the Kickstarter page, and consider donating. Pledge $98 and you’ll receive a pair of Treks to start on your own urban adventures. If you can’t do that, donate even a $1, and help bring comfort and design to urban explorers all over.
