Messes Make Memories #Ickies #ad

Clorox disclosureIf there’s one thing y’all know about me, you know that I keep it real. My amazing husband. My perfect child. My spotless home. It’s all real, it’s all perfect, it’s all the time.

Well, maybe not all the time.

Actually, it’s probably more like a small percentage of the time.

What can I say? As Ayva has gotten older, and our life has gotten busier, I’ve learned to embrace the mess.  In fact, this is what Ayva’s room looks like right now:

Little Girl In Messy Room

Here’s the thing. I could make her clean it up right now, or I give her a few more minutes to wallow in filth enjoy her mess. You know what? These are the fun years. The messes that she makes (and the pictures that I’m able to capture) are memories for us. I’ll look back on nights like these, nights when every single thing is out of the toy box, and all I’ll remember is this:

Cute Little Girl

Guess who else gets that messes make memories? Clorox gets it. They want to show us how to laugh through the ick with a first of it’s kind digital event! Clorox and famed improv group, The Second City Communications, are teaming up for the first ever Clorox Ick Awards, a live interactive experience celebrating life’s ickiest (and funniest) moments.

Clorox Ick AwardsThe Clorox Ick Awards is your “reality” award show, honoring those situations and experiences that we can all relate to. Your real-life, real-time submissions will inspire The Second City Communications’ icky improv sketches, which will be shared live on Twitter Wednesday, April 9 from 6 – 10 p.m. ET.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Laugh through the mess with the Clorox Ick Awards on Wednesday, April 9 from 6-10 p.m ET. Join the conversation, share your Ick Awards nominations, win prizes and watch The Second City Communications’ hilariously icky sketches on Twitter using #Ickies.
  • Have a hilariously icky moment you want to nominate in advance? Share it with us using #Ickies and “tune in” to see if it is featured in an improv sketch from The Second City Communications!
  • Visit Clorox.com and sign up for Clorox’s email newsletter to learn more about how Clorox can help you laugh through the mess.
  • THIS IS IMPORTANT: Head over to HowToBeADad.com to RSVP, and enter to win your part of over $2,500 in prizes. They’re giving out $100 gift cards every 10 minutes for the first hour! You can buy a lot of mess with that!

Just a little something to entice you:  I studied Theater in college, and I’ll be tweeting, too. If that doesn’t convince you…who am I kidding? Of course you’re convinced! I’ll see you there! #Ickies

And then, one day, you hire a maid! (at least, that's how my story would end...hopefully!)

We try to straighten up the house a few times a day, otherwise our house will consume us. Sometimes I just let go and let the kids have fun, all while making my own messes in the kitchen. Other times it's definitely time to clean up, and thankfully we have plenty of helpers to get the job done. I'm looking forward to the Ick Awards!

That's right, @mamaharris:disqus! Straightening up as you go is really the best way to do it. I'm like you...my messes are in the kitchen!

Kids are messy. I keep my house neat, but not Better Homes and Gardens ready. I want my family to be comfortable and to enjoy our home, not just live there, but really LIVE there.

That's my goal, too, @janeanedavis:disqus! I want us to have fun and make memories. With that comes messes sometimes!

LOVE Ayva's smile. I've given up on my kids room. As long as I can walk from the door to their clothes hamper, I'm cool.

Thank you, @thienkim:disqus! I'm with you for the most part, but I have to be able to vacuum (my favorite cleaning activity!)
