Then, a few years ago, I co-produced a couple of children’s plays that I wrote. “The Ugly Princess” enjoyed 2 seperate runs, the first as part of a citywide theatre fest, and the second, a remounting during Black History Month. When I was pregnant with Ayva, I produced another play that I wrote, “The Ugly Princess’ Christmas Extravaganza” that had a sold out 2 show run.
I love entrepreneurship. I read books on starting businesses for fun. I completed a young entrepreneurs program a few years ago, and even have a certificate to prove it! The only thing is, over the years, my focus has been a bit…elsewhere. Not to use being a mom as an excuse, but, you know, I haven’t had the mental energy to think about managing my own endeavors. I’ve fallen into a routine where I don’t necessarily think in terms of being an entrepreneur, or, creating opportunities in order to better my life and the lives of others. Instead, I’m thinking like an employee…”I hope “The Man” can help me reach my goals.
Well, enough of that. Maybe it was my 3 week vacation of working for “The Man”, maybe it is the circle of amazing women that are surrounding and motivating me, I don’t really know. All I know is I’m baaaackkkkk! I’m back, and I’m ready to innovate.
That’s right, innovate. That’s my word for the year. My friend, Hillary at My Scraps doesn’t make a whole list of resolutions. She chooses one word to focus on for the year that helps to guide what she does. I have decided that innovate is my word.
Innovation is about creating. It’s about introducing new ideas, developing new ways of doing things, thinking outside of the box, starting stuff. And that’s what I’m going to be doing this year.
What about you? What’s your word?
