After nearly 8 years of being a mom, I’ve finally figured out the perfect formula for a happy child. Lots of quality time and attention, plenty of playdates with good friends, and delicious snacks. Seems too simple to actually work, right? The longer that I’m a parent, the more I’m realizing that this mom thing doesn’t have to be hard. Certainly there are some children who have high needs, and so you might have to do a little more to make sure their needs are met. When you have an easy peasy kiddo like mine, though, most of the challenges we run into are because I’ve been overthinking something.
Quality Time
Take quality time, for instance. I don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars on outrageous experiences to show her that I care about here. Sharing a favorite book and reading out loud to each other every night, cooking together, or watching a movie, all of those actions have the same effect on my little girl. I don’t even want to tell you how long it took me to figure that out!
Fun Playdates
Then, when it comes to playdates, especially since Ayva is an only child (for now), I just need to get out of the way and let the girls do their thing. There’s no need for a detailed play schedule or itinerary. If I leave the girls to themselves, inevitably, I’ll hear their giggles in no less than a few minutes.
Delicious Snacks
Finally, and most importantly, delicious and healthy snacks have made my life as a mom so much easier! Ayva is a pretty picky eater, and I used to stress out because I was so concerned about her getting all of the things she needed to have energy throughout the day. Terrence or I would make her lunch and she would bring her lunchbox home with all of the contents completely untouched. Instead of stressing about it, we finally started stocking the kitchen with healthy snacks and let her do her thing. I guess we’ve become snacktivists. We believe wholeheartedly in the benefits of snacks!
One of the snacks that Ayva has fallen in love with is Dannon® Danimals® Smoothies. She can pack them in her lunch, drink one in the car on the way to school, or share with a friend on a playdate. I like them because they’re a good source of calcium and vitamin D. Oh, and right now you can get a 12-pack of Danimals Smoothies at Walmart for under $5.00. If you use Ibotta, you can save another $1.00. This Ibotta offer is also valid for the 18-pack, too!
