Last weekend, Ayva and I decided to have a little bit of girl time by heading down to Great Mall in Milpitas. It’s an outlet mall with brand-name specialty shops, plus department stores and food options. We wanted to do some back to school shopping, and I knew they’d have a lot of stores filled with clothes that Ayva would absolutely love. What I didn’t expect, however, was to be transported back to the 90’s!

Every single store we went into felt like a walk through my high school. There were babydoll dresses, graphic tees, lots of print, and I was here for every bit of it! I can’t tell you how exciting it was to see Ayva gravitating towards the same styles that I would have picked out 20 years ago. People talk about the 80’s all the time, but when it comes to fashion, the 90’s are my absolute favorite decade.

Ayva’s Finds at Great Mall

The first store we went into was Crazy 8. We know them for their trendy styles, and I was sure we’d be able to find my long-legged girl some jeans. We picked up a skinny pair for $8.88, a graphic tee for $5.00, and she mulled over an adorable zip-up jersey jacket. She decided she wanted to walk around a little bit more before making a decision.

Next we went to H&M, and quite frankly, I lost it in there. The colors! The shapes! The fashion was everything, y’all. EVERY.THING. Ayva was squealing as she made her choices, and I was right there along with her. When she picked up a striped babydoll dress with a white collar that looked exactly like one that I owned my junior year in high school, it took everything in my from trying to squeeze my big ole butt into it! It was so cute! Once she tried it on, we knew she had to have it.

A quick stop at Claire’s and Payless Shoe Source helped us to pull together her 90’s inspired back to school looks. Ayva actually couldn’t wait to wear her outfits, so she put on the babydoll dress for church the next day. Terrence and I forced her to wait until school started on Tuesday to wear the romantic, flowery dress. It was worth the wait.
