There’s been a major shift with Ayva since she started the first grade. The little girl who used to twirl and dance everywhere we went now carries a notebook and pen and records all of our actions in her “journal”. When she’s not writing a step-by-step of our daily activities, she’s making personalized invitations for a party she’s perpetually planning, or writing fanciful stories filled with intrigue and surprised. Getting her to put down her notebook and focus on eating can be a challenge sometimes, so we’ve taken to giving her small meals and snacks to make sure she has enough fuel to keep the stories flowing. It takes a lot of energy to be creative!

One of Ayva’s most favorite snack while she’s writing are Jif™Bars with Peanut Butter and Chocolate. She loves that she can hold the bar in one hand and her pen in the other. I love that they’re packed full of protein. In fact, there’s 7 grams of protein in each bar. As a writer myself, I know what it’s like to get in a zone and not want to stop, but you need a little nibble. Jif™Bars are perfect to have on hand for those times.

I never know what kind of story Ayva is going to come up with next. It’s always a fun adventure to dig through her notebooks and get a glimpse into the mind of a 6-year-old. As she gets older, I’m looking forward to her stories getting more detailed and sophisticated. As long as I keep her snacked up and stacked up (with paper and pencils), I’m sure the stories will keep coming!
