Be honest with me, Moms. Are you counting down the days until the kids are back in school? Are you staring at the clock, willing the hands to move faster? Are you moving bedtime up in an effort to shorten the time that you have to wait until the first day of school? If so, you should feel ashamed of yourself!

Just kidding! Ha!

I feel you! Even though I love the summer, and having Ayva around all day is really pretty awesome, it’s tough to be a work at home mom when I have to work and mom at the same time. It’s exhausting. I’m looking forward to the beginning of school so that I can find a little bit of balance, and hopefully get some rest so that I can be a better mom and entrepreneur.

There’s just one thing.

Getting ready for back to school.

It’s hard! I’m not super organized, so big transitions are always a bit chaotic for me. Every prep for back to school list that I’ve seen only focuses on the kids. What about the Moms? What should we do to get ourselves ready to pass the torch to those dear, dear teachers? Don’t worry. I’ve got you covered. I’ve pushed myself out of my comfort zone and thought ahead to any potential problems you might have once the first day of school rolls arounds. Follow these tips and you should be fine.

1. Find out the date that school starts back.

I know some of y’all have this date written in permanent marker in your planners with stickers and lots of exclamation points surrounding it. If you’re like me, though, you know that the kids go back to school sometime between August and September, but you’re not exactly sure when. You’ll want to check that out. Call the school, check the website, ask another parent. Trust me. This important to know.

2. Scope out an early drop off and pick up parking spot.

If you’re a parent that drives your child to school, the bane of your existence might just be drop-off / pick-up time at the school. We’re fortunate that our school has an efficient system that works 99% of the time. Back in my teaching days, though, I’ve seen parents almost come to blows in the school parking lot. My tip is to try to get to the school early every day. If you’re there early, you can get in and out before the maniac drivers do. You might have to find a place near the school to wait for the gates to open if you’re school is like ours, but it’ll be worth it for the peace of mind.

3. Guard yourself from other people’s germs.

Listen, I have learned my lesson. I don’t play with other people’s germs (OPGs). For some reason, OPGs are way more potent than Ayva’s germs. Our entire family has been knocked down off of the strength of one random sneeze. Nope. We can’t do it. Terrence and I have already started working to boost our immune systems with Zarbee’s Naturals Vitamin Drink Mixes. We have been going hard on the Immune Support drink mix that’s made with elderberry extract and dark honey.. Every evening, instead of tea, we’ve been sipping on the delicious Citrus Spice flavor drink, content in knowing that we are taking the first step to protecting ourself from OPGs. You can find Zarbee’s Vitamin Drink Mixes exclusively at Target as part of the Made To Matter program.

4. Take the time to be in the moment.

I know that by the time school starts back up, all some of us want to do is drop the kids off, come home and bask in the silence. Before you light your candle and get in the tub to soak away all of the exhaustion fun of summer, though, make sure you commemorate the moment. This will be the only time your child is going into the first grade (probably). It might be the last year that they let you hold their hand. If you have older children, it might be the last time you get to drop them off to school for the first time because they’ll have their license next year. As much as our kids drive us crazy, we love them, right? They’ll need to know that for sure, especially on the first day of school! Oh, and make sure you have some Zarbee’s Natural Multivitamin with Prebiotic around to help aid in digestion, because admit it, your stomach will be in knots. I know mine will be!

We’re in back to school prep mode here as well. And it’s so funny because other people’s germs are one of the first things I thought about as well. LOL. I’m going to have to check out Zarbee’s!
