This post is sponsored by Carter’s; however, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
The first two thoughts I have whenever I find out someone is having a baby are:
- What a blessing!
- Must. Buy. Baby. Clothes. Now.
Nothing awakens my shopping bug like learning that a new itty bitty is on the way, so imagine how I felt when I discovered that I am expecting next spring! Yup, my second child will be here right before the summer, and I can’t wait to hit the stores and start building a wardrobe for our new addition. There’s just one problem. I don’t know if we’re having a boy or a girl.
I know that society is changing and we’re past the point where girls have to wear pink and boys have to wear blue. I also know that many of my family and friends can be very traditional, so they’re going to go the pink or blue route when they find out what we’re having regardless. Then, there’s the folks who have so much patience that they are waiting until the baby is born to find out the gender. Just for the record, my husband and I are NOT those type of people. We’re going to find out as soon as we can because #impatient. So, what do us “love to shop for baby” peeps do in the meantime? How can we get a head start on gifts if we don’t know who we’re buying for? Simple. We head to Carter’s and start to build the baby’s wardrobe with some key gender neutral essentials!
Focus on function.
Instead of worrying about styles and colors, think about function. Every baby needs bodysuits and socks. Every baby needs bibs. Think about comfort and necessity. With so much focus on the different styles and if you should buy pink or blue, most people tend to forget what is really necessary and instead end up buying that new pink chiffon baby dress. While that would be amazing, it doesn’t really fit in with the needs of a newborn baby.
Think outside of pink and blue for a gender neutral wardrobe.
There are other colors besides pink and blue, you know. Now, I’m not a fan of putting babies in black or brown, but white, yellow, green, purple, and orange are all neutral colors and perfectly fine in my book. When you get into the “fancy” colors like turquoise and sea foam you add a gazillion other options. Carter’s has you covered with lots of different options, especially in the must-have Original Bodysuit.
When in doubt, skip the clothes.
If you feel really uncomfortable about purchasing gender neutral baby clothes, pick out some books or toys instead. Carter’s has a really great selection of baby items outside of clothes. There’s everything from teddy bears to teething rings. Grab a generous gift card, and you’ll hear no complaints from your mama to be. Trust me!
