I’ve mentioned many times about how much I love personalized gifts. I mean, I have to, right, with a daughter whose name is spelled Ayva. If you want to get all creative with the spelling of your child’s name, you’d better be ready to take the time to find unique gifts! I’ve been pretty fortunate to find some cool and special personalized items over the years for Ayva. One of those items is the book, Following Featherbottom by Philip Haussler, illustrated by Brad Sneed. I was offered the chance to review a copy, and both Ayva and I are in love with it.
Following Featherbottom is the tale of a stork named Felix Featherbottom who has the job of helping to find names for children before they’re born. The story follows Felix on his adventure all over the world as he gathers letters to make the name for the child. The thing that is super awesome about the book is that the letters he is gathering are the letters to your child’s first and last name. And his deadline? Your child’s birth date! Following Featherbottom takes unique to another level since no two books are alike!
This book makes a great gift because it’s not just about the story, there’s also a built in gaming aspect as well. On each page, based on the letter that Felix finds, you can search and find other things that start with the letter. For example, Felix finds the A in Ayva’s name in Antarctica. The picture is illustrated with an Abominable snowman, alien, and antenna. There are also things there like a afghan blanket and anvil which gives you an opportunity to introduce your little one to some new, interesting words. Ayva and I poured through the pages together for over an hour.
Operative word? Together.
Following Featherbottom is a beautifully illustrated, super sweet book that let’s your child know how special they are, and really give them a sense of the anticipation that surrounded their birth. You can even add a loving dedication to the book when you order it. The book is only $32.95 from marblespark, and will be a treasured addition to your bookshelf forever.

This is such a cute idea. It is one that she will treasure and she can keep and pass on. The gambling aspect is a bonus...too cute I am going to have to check it out for my niece.

As a person who could never find her name on personalized things, I love this so much! This would be a fantastic way to get kids to read more, have them invested in a story and let them know the power of words. I love the fact that this is a game as well as a way to share your child's name. I agree with Janeane...awesome!
