Having an almost 4-year-old, I’ve been a part of some pretty awesome playdates. From meeting up with friends for a girls afternoon out, to mornings at the playground chatting with moms about their current lives wrangling preschoolers (and their past lives wrangling adult adventures!), playdates are definitely one of the “mom activities” that I enjoy the most.
Some of the best playdates that I’ve ever had, though, have been with just me and Ayva. Yup, the days when I’m intentional about unplugging and letting play guide our movement are truly epic. Last summer, after I had a big surgery that kept me out of work for 6 weeks, and while I was preparing to make a huge move across the country, I had several playdates with Ayva that gave me the energy that I needed to make it through the difficult time. Once we went to the library, and then read our books outside while having a picnic. Another time, as we were driving past the zoo, I decided to pull over even though we were supposed to be at home packing, We spent the day walking around, eating ice cream while oohing and ahing over the animals. Both our planned and impromptu playdates turned us into much more than mother and daughter. We enjoyed spending time and playing together so much…we truly evolved into best friends. And last summer? Well, last summer was the summer of epic playdates.
