Some of my favorite memories from my childhood were made in my grandmother’s kitchen. Every day after school and all day on the weekends, I would sit at her table. I’d listen to her sing and watch her cook. She and I were close. I learned so much in that kitchen with her. I would give anything to spend even just ten more minutes in there with her.
My grandmother passed away a few years ago. Her influence still lives on in the way that my family and I connect. We’ve never met a kitchen in which we didn’t congregate together during family gatherings. The laughter that comes from that space is reminiscent of the days I spent with my favorite lady.
Life is a lot different now than they were during those times in the kitchen with my Granny, though. I had plenty of time to spend afterschool helping her bake cornbread and waiting for the fried chicken to cool off enough for me to take a first bite. My daughter is much busier than I was. When school gets out, her afternoons are spent at basketball practice, play rehearsals, or Girl Scouts. Instead of waiting for her at home in the kitchen, I’m out and about shuttling her around, trying to run my business in between her appointments.
The Chef Collection reflects change
I still crave meaningful moments with my family even as our lives have changed. Fortunately, as our schedules get more packed, Samsung is working to create products that keep up connected in our homes. Samsung’s Chef Collection makes life easier for families with smart technology that fits into our busy lifestyles and engages the entire family. Their updated appliances reflect our modern way of living. That includes our need to be able to multi-task, and to work more intelligently even when we’re away from home.
At the Pacific Coast Builders Conference (PCBC) in San Francisco, I was able to check out some of Samsung’s new appliances and see just how they could fit into my world. I was blown away. From the super connected Family Hub for 2018 refrigerator, to the gorgeous Chef Collection line of premium built-in appliances, Samsung’s goal of connecting families through food, technology and fun was apparent in all of their designs.
First, I took time to check out the Chef Collection. Available in matte black and stainless steel, this collection was developed in partnership with world-class chefs. They thought about everything a family would need to create connections in the kitchen. Just as lovely as it is functional, the Chef Collection features appliances like the 30” Chef Collection Double Wall Oven with Flex Duo™ which can be used as a double oven with different temperatures, and includes a steam function. And the 30” Wall Mounted Chef Collection Hood is Bluetooth enabled, which serves as the perfect complement to your connected kitchen.
These appliances all encourage families to be connected through food, family, and fun. The star of the collection to me, though, is the 4-Door French Door Panel Ready 42” Built-In Chef Collection Refrigerator. It’s able to be transformed from a fridge to freezer easily based on a family’s needs. Samsung’s View Inside cameras make meal planning easier. You can see what you have and need right from your smartphone. I kept going back to it because I so impressed by its functionality and simple beauty.
The kitchen is the family hub
Another thing that I used to love about my grandmother’s kitchen was the refrigerator filled with magnets. They held up photos, notes, and other mementos that were special to our family. Samsung’s Family Hub refrigerator is an integrated appliance that can truly be the center of a family’s communication. The LED touchscreen is host to features such as a calendar that easily sync to either Outlook and Google, your favorite apps and allows you to use Samsung’s voice assistant Bixby so you can use a voice command to turn up the music while chopping vegetables.
The Family Hub also features a View Inside camera that allows you to see inside your fridge wherever you are via a compatible app. This allows users to be more sustainable by managing their food waste so they can consume all their food before it expires – a feature that makes this refrigerator incredibly special.
With families spending more than 60 percent of their at- time in the kitchen, the Chef Collection and Family Hub support efficiency, wellness and most importantly creating memories. While many of us have smart homes now with connected lights, locks and cameras,
Samsung has embraced the tech transition into the kitchen. They are supporting families with moving into a modern era, even as we remember the way we stayed connected back in the day.
