Over the last 2 months, Ayva has started a new morning routine. After she wakes up and goes potty, she goes downstairs, wakes up my Dad (who’s visiting with us for the summer), and he gets her a bowl of cereal. Then she comes upstairs, shows me her bowl and says, “Doesn’t this look delicious!”, and sits at her “tiny table”, which is actually a stool, and eats. It’s a sweet little routine that is fun for her and awesome for me because I know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day!
Think about how you feel when you miss breakfast. If you’re anything like me, by 11:00 AM, you’re sluggish, you aren’t thinking as clearly as you could, and have an attitude. When children miss breakfast, it really affects the way that their body and brains function. Imagine trying to sit in a classroom and concentrate when your stomach is grumbling…it’s not easy. That’s why I’m really pleased to partner with Champions for Kids for the Post Bowls of Hope SIMPLE Service Project.
All this month, across the country, folks are going to be fighting childhood hunger by hosting food drives, and I’m joining in. I’m hosting a #PostCFK Breakfast of Champions Food Drive at my summer camp job next week in order to help feed Philadelphia children in need. There’s going to be prizes and fun all week long, and at the end of the week, I’ll have a nice donation to present to Philabundance, a food bank that serves hundreds of thousands of families in Philadelphia every year.
Anyone can participate in a Post Bowls of Hope SIMPLE Service Project. Even if you don’t have the time to host a food drive, you can Buy 2, Give 1…buy 2 boxes of cereal and give 1 away to a child or family in need. That’s exactly how we started out our food drive, take a look! Learn more about this month’s SIMPLE Service Project by checking out Champions for Kids on Facebook or Twitter. You can find out more about Post on Facebook or Twitter, also.
Come back next week to find out my Breakfast of Champions – Post Bowls of Hope SIMPLE Service project fared!
