What were the best backpacks for middle school when you were a kid?

I remember everyone in my school had a Jansport. We’d get metallic markers, write all over them, and cover them with buttons and pins.

Honestly not much has changed with middle schoolers and backpacks. 

My daughter and her friends showcase their entire personality all over their bags.

My job as the parent is to just make sure I get her a bag that can last the whole year!

What type of backpack do you need for middle school?

Middle school textbooks are no joke. If your student has homework in 2 or 3 subjects, they’ll need a lot of room to bring those books, plus notebooks and planners, home.

Backpacks come in different shapes and sizes and it is important to find one that fits your child’s needs and lifestyle.

If they’re in a big school or need physical support, you might want to consider a backpack that has wheels on it or one with an ergonomic design.

If a kid has a locker and can drop books off, then they might prefer a lightweight backpack.

Or, if they carry their laptop all day, you’ll want to find a bag with padded shoulder straps and a separate compartment for the laptop.

Of course, you’ll also have to consider whether your child’s school has rules for backpacks, like if they have to be clear or mesh.

It might seem like you’re overthinking it, but the wrong backpack can cause a lot of physical issues for your child, so make sure you take choosing one seriously. 

Your middle schooler is sure to have an opinion about what kind of backpack they want, so consult with them before you start your search.

The main thing to keep in mind is that the bag is going to need to be big enough to carry big textbooks, lunch boxes, and other supplies.

You’ll want a backpack that’s at least 13 inches, otherwise, it’s going to be way too small.

It’s crucial that the bag is durable, so look for water-proof material that’s nylon or polyester.
