Years ago, I never would have imagined that I’d be purchasing iPad apps for my preschooler. I’d always assumed that I’d be the “less technology, more creative play” type parent. Well, my little Ayva (and preschool app developers!) proved me wrong. Of course I don’t want to overdo the screen time, so I was happy to discover these apps based on television shows for Ayva. It’s like getting two for one. Check out these five apps that allow you to cut down your preschoolers screen time while allowing them to still enjoy their favorite television show characters!

Peppa Pig, Mama Knows It all

1. Peppa Pig’s Happy Mrs. Chicken
Just as silly as the British cartoon, kids earn stickers by doing crazy tasks like jumping in muddy puddles.
Price: $2.99

apps for preschoolers, team umizoomi, Mama Knows It All

2. Team Umizoomi’s Zoom Into Numbers
Perfect for preschoolers just learning math concepts like counting and sequencing, kids earn badges and unlock new games as they stroll through UmiCity.
Price: $5.99

Mama Knows It All, Sofia the First

3. Sofia the First: Story Theater App
This app really encourages creativity, and allows kids to produce stop action “puppet shows” with music AND recorded voices.
Price: $3.99

apps for preschoolers, Minnie Mouse

4. Minnie’s Mouseke-Puzzles
Great app for quiet time or independent play, and includes puzzles that are easy to hard.
Price: $0.99

apps for preschoolers, Mama Knows It All, Daniel Tiger

5. Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood: Play At Home With Daniel
Super simple, kids recreate scenes from Daniel Tiger’s life with stickers. I thought it’d be too boring, but Ayva can play with it for blocks of time and not get bored!
Price: $1.99

Do you have any apps that you would recommend for preschoolers? Let me know in the comments, and I’ll check them out!

I remember mickey mouse and minnie very fondly for my childhood … I sat and watched a couple of episodes with my nephew and while the graphics have changed the ideas behind the show is still great. I hope that they are still around when my kids make their debut in the world. Thanks for sharing this!

My cousin has a daughter the very same age — I am going to pass this information along to her–I know that her daughter will have fun with these apps!

At first I was the same, thought that Apps were just as bad as TV and that my child should do traditional creative play including playing with dolls and tea sets etc but now seeing how creative some of the games are has changed my mind!
