There is so much that adults can learn from children. If we were to take note of the earnest way they care about every living thing, be it human or animal, the world would be a much better place. Every week, my Ayva comes to me with stories about animals that need saving, people who need help, and ideas of things she can do to give back. This is the little girl who gives every dime she gets back to the church. I knew she’d be interested in learning about the plight of big cats and knowing that she can support and raise awareness just by wearing a pair of awesome pair of shoes from the TOMS Big Cats Collection.
I first learned about the TOMS Animal Initiative from my friends at National Geographic. TOMS and NatGeo have partnered to let people know that we’re losing big cats and they’re in need of protection. It’s not just about snazzy shoes, sunglasses, backpacks or any of the other items in the Big Cats Collection. It’s about spreading the word about our magnificent furry friends and giving folks a way to give back.
Here’s more about the program:
TOMS is excited to partner with National Geographic and support its critical nonprofit work through the Big Cats Collection. Big cats in the wild are disappearing at an alarming rate, and this special collection draws attention to the critical need to protect these majestic creatures for generations to come. Since 2009, National Geographic’s Big Cats Initiative has worked to reverse the decline of big cats through on-the-ground conservation and education projects in Africa, Asia, and North and South America. These projects include instituting patrols to prevent lion snaring and poaching and building livestock enclosures to protect endangered cats from retaliatory killing.
Ayva loves animal print. LOVES. When we pulled her new TOMS out of the box, she grabbed them and twirled around the room. Just as I expected, when she discovered the cause behind the Big Cat Collection, she insisted on wearing them regardless of where she was going or what she was wearing. Fashion be darned, my girl was going to let the masses know that the big cats need to be protected. See what I mean? A lot we can learn from children.
You can support this amazing initiative by purchasing any of the items in the TOMS Animal Initiative. Remember, for every pair of TOMS you purchase, the company will give a new pair of shoes to a child in need as part of their One for One® program.
I am a National Geographic Kids Insider and received a pair of TOMS to review.
