It’s hard to look at you and not wonder about the future.
What are you going to like? Who are you going to be?
This whole wide world is available to you.
There are so many people, and places, and so many experiences,
And I believe you can have it all.
I know it won’t always be easy.
You’ll have to work hard and make sacrifices.
But you’ll get through it, you’ll grow through it.
And I’ll be with you the whole time because
I believe in you.
You might be the child of a single mother.
And you might be Black.
And you might be a woman.
And you might not be rich.
None of that matters.
You are my child. You are God’s child.
And I believe.
I believe that I am a good mom, and that I can raise a great daughter.
I believe in the kindness and generosity of others, because I’m really NOT raising you alone.
I believe in hard work (and we’re not too cute to break a sweat).
I believe that your amazing hugs are going to get you far in life.
Yeah, I really believe in those hugs!
I believe that you will master the potty, and sleep in your own bed.
I believe that you will learn to tie your shoe, read, and do a cartwheel.
I believe that you will excel in your studies and love learning.
I believe you will be kind to others, and helpful and thoughtful.
I believe in your smile, and that you’ll share happiness and peace wherever you go.
I guess, what I’m trying to say, Baby Girl, is that I believe in you. And don’t you ever forget it.
Love (with my whole heart) Always,
