I knew exactly what I was getting into when I did it. It was a conscious decision, and one that I made all on my own. I have no one to blame but myself. When I decided to take the uber popular girl’s name ¬†Ava, add a Y to it for flavor, and call my child “Ayva”, I sealed her fate for the rest of her life. She’ll never be able to walk into a gift shop at an amusement park and purchase a ready made personalized item. It’s just not going to happen. Since I don’t believe Ayva should have to pay for mY choice, I am committed to buying her any adorable thing that I can get her name on. Well, hello, Personal Creations!

Personal Creations makes personalized gifts for any occasion that you can think of. They have all sorts of cool items for men, women, children, the home, and more. Really, anything you need for any occasion, they can make extra special by adding a photo, name, monogram, special message, or any other personal touch you can think of. Since Ayva has so much going on this year with moving up to a different preschool class, our upcoming wedding, and lots of travel, Terrence and I have been looking for something special to give her to celebrate how well she’s been handling all of these changes.

little girl with backpack, little Black girl, Mama Knows It All, Personal Creations

We were able to find exactly what we were looking for on the Personal Creations website. Their totally cute Rag Doll Backpack was perfect! Not only is functional, the backpack is the exact right size for our preschooler to put her treasures in, it’s also cuddly and sweet. The doll on the backpack is removable, and, get this, they had a little Black girl! So, in addition to personalizing the backpack with Ayva’s name, the doll actually reminds her of herself! The Rag Doll Backpack also comes in other nationalities, and I appreciate that Personal Creations understands that all children are different.

The backpack is very well made, too. The fabric is a quilted cotton, and the doll is attached with sturdy snaps. The backpack straps are nice and strong, and the nylon doll with yarn hair was obviously assembled with care. Ayva’s name is printed directly on the doll’s shirt, and I’m not worried at all about it rubbing off. It’s not one of those cheap iron on deals, it’s personalized for real!

  1. NONE of my kids’ names are on anything. Keeps me from having to buy all the personalized stuff. ;) And will make it much more special when they do get something super special. Love the ragdoll backpack.

Haha, @d7dd6df3b249d2ff02ef7bf8dce5d916:disqus! It definitely is a money saver! Yes, whenever she gets things with her name on it, she gets so excited!

Okay now that is adorable and of course so is Ayva. I love that her name is different but oh man as a girl named Jillian in the 80′s there was NOTHING personalized for me in any gift shop. Ever. I think it’s sweet you’re making sure she gets some extra love this month. Yay to your whole family and excuse me, I have a backpack to buy!

    • BrandiJeter says:

Oh gosh, I know! I know OF Jillians, but you are the only Jillian that I KNOW. It’s such a great name, too. Now, Kayla’s name is cute, too. It’s not tremendously popular, but widespread enough that she’ll be able to find stuff with her name on it in stores!

I think my kids have it worst of all, lol! It’s really all Aj’s fault. I chose the names, he chose the spellings. That doll and backpack are super cute.

    • BrandiJeter says:

Haha! They will have it rough! The spelling of their names are so creative and meaningful. That’s really cool.

  4. I named ny kid something mainstream (and seemingly unique…hah!) because I hated NEVER being able to find “Rachee” on things. I love the doll and love that your little one can have her own personalized backpack.

    • BrandiJeter says:

I used to have a hard time finding Brandi with an I when I was growing up, so I should have known better! I LOVE your daughter’s name. It is unique and mainstream at the same time!

I know the feeling my son’s name is Djimon, and I also was very conscious when making that decision. You are not going to find that in the Disney gift store on a key chain. However what he may miss in the way of ready made personalized gifts he makes up for in the area of being unique and set apart almost guaranteeing automatic interest in him or at least his name, and as it would turn out, fits his personality to a T! Hey it could be worst, I loved that name so much I was going to name my child boy or girl, yes girl that name! Ayva’s name is beautiful is fits her and her beauty perfectly!

  6. The closest I find to my name is Ariel :-/ what a great site for those in our lives that have unique names!
