Inhale. Exhale. Repeat. This is a mantra that I chant to myself daily to stay calm, focused and feeling peaceful. It doesn’t always work, but this week, I am so grateful that God has allowed positive energy to flow through me even while dealing with difficult people and difficult situations.

Here’s how it works. First, I inhale through my nostrils, and as I do it, I take one second to really acknowledge the stress or frustration. I acknowledge it because, as much as I can’t stand it, it is a part of me, and if I want to get rid of it, I have to first recognize it’s there. Next, I blow the stress out through pursed lips, submitting to the first feeling of emptiness that fills me before the peace enters into the space. And then I do it all again.
I have been a hothead. Actually, I still am in many ways. Just like the stress, I acknowledge that character trait, and I’m working really hard to be more rational and level-headed at all times. As for today, I am peaceful, I am stress free, and every day I am becoming a better person. It’s one of my fantasies that one day, everyone will be chill and relaxed, and there won’t be difficult people or difficult situations to deal with. Until that day comes, though, I’ll just continue to inhale, exhale, and repeat.
